March 7th, 2011 at 10:05 pm
I would like to hear from drivers now working for Davis. Have you reviewed the web site? Is anything exagerated. Is pay accurate? Is home time consistant and relyable? Miles per week? Dispatcher relationships? etc.
April 6th, 2011 at 4:56 am
Have been with Davis just under a year. Home every 7 days average 2200 miles a week. Was cautious at first after being an o/o for so long but happy here. Great people to work for.
April 27th, 2011 at 7:48 am
I have been here just over a couple of months very surprised to see a company that backs up it’s promises in these trying times of the economy but Davis express has kept its word with me. you cant find a better company to work for (depending on what you want)at the same token as a driver i always try to make good on all i tell my dispatcher. just an awesome company.
May 7th, 2011 at 11:33 am
I have been with Davis for almost a yr now and really like it here. i like the 7 out and 2 at home alot better than 4 or 5 wks out on the road.good people to work for.
May 13th, 2011 at 4:33 pm
Davis is a great company. I would like the option of having the 7on 7 off available out of Atlanta. I think many other GA drivers would like to have that option as well. When is this going to happen?
August 9th, 2011 at 7:27 pm
Is there a lot of back road driving at not since they do a lot of publix stores or what! And do you have to follow the directions giving on the qual-comm or can you use a gps unit?
August 17th, 2011 at 7:09 am
Hi Kenny. Our drivers are provided with route plans via the Qualcomm. As a general rule, these routing plans keep us on the interstates as much as possible, however, “back/side roads” are sometimes essential in order to reach some of our destinations. I hope this answers your questions. Thanks again for your post, and if you would like to speak with someone in greater detail, give us a call at 800-874-4270, Ext 2.
August 17th, 2011 at 3:59 pm
thinking of coming to work for Davis is it true that you average 1000$ weekly? thanx
August 19th, 2011 at 7:57 am
Joe,
As you know, many factors determine how much a driver will gross in a given time period, including miles ran, mileage pay, stop pay, detention/layover pay, per diem, bonuses, etc.
However, on average, given our current load mix, full-time Davis Express drivers should not have any problems grossing $900 to $1,100 per week, if not more.
Based on experience and seniority, our drivers earn anywhere from 39 CPM to 47 CPM.
In addition, even our drivers with the minimal amount of tractor/trailer experience, that start at 39 CPM, will be making 47 CPM within only 5 years with Davis Express, based on our current seniority pay schedule.
If you would like more information about what we can do for you, contact one of our recruiters (Brook or Pam) at 1-800-874-4270. They’d love to hear from you.
Take care, and have a great day.
August 25th, 2011 at 12:21 pm
Are you associated with Davis Transfer Company?
August 25th, 2011 at 6:10 pm
i found an ad for this company on Craigslist(Gadsden,AL).how often would i get home and what are your trucks governed at?
thanks
August 26th, 2011 at 9:53 am
Hi Josh, and thanks for the post.
Our trucks are currently governed at 65 MPH, which seems to serve us well, given our running area and shorter runs (averaging 450 to 500 miles).
Living in Gadston, Alabama, you could get home every 7 days for at least 48 hours. Keep in mind, though, as we do not have a nearby drop yard or terminal, you would either have to park your rig at your home or at an approved secure location, during your home time.
If you have anymore questions, feel free to drop us a note here on the blog, or give us a call at 800-874-4270, Ext. 2, and ask to speaqk with Pam or Brook.
Take care, and have a great day.
August 26th, 2011 at 10:02 am
Good morning Glenn,
Actually, we are not.
Davis Express is a southeastern refrigerated carrier, operating primarily in FL, GA, TN, and AL, with some loads also getting us into parts of LA, MS, AR and KY.
August 28th, 2011 at 1:40 pm
Hey, do you folks have generators on your trucks (I saw the photo of of a KW with one) or do you have your drivers idle? ‘Cause I need to know if I’ll be allowed to stay comfortable with either the AC or the Heat while the trucks being unloaded.
Second question is, do you folks pay for lumpers (or have already set arrangements with them for payment), or do you have your drivers pay up front for lumpers and you reimburse them? This company sounds like a good deal ’cause I’m so sick and tired of the runarounds with misleading information from dispatchers and recruiters. Thanks
August 29th, 2011 at 10:45 am
Hello Esau, and thank you for your post.
First, the comfort of our drivers is very important to us, thus, each of our tractors is equipped with a TriPac APU.
Concerning lumper fees, Davis Express pays all lumper fees via Comcheck, so there is no out-of-pocket lumper expense for our drivers.
I hope this answers your questions. If you need more information about what we have to offer, don’t hesitate to contact us at any time at -874-4270.
August 29th, 2011 at 1:27 pm
Thanks alexc,
What about scaling loads, are the drivers expected to scale every load & do you pay for those with some sort of advance, or do you reimburse drivers for that out of pocket expense?
This’ll be the last question, promise.
August 30th, 2011 at 6:56 am
Hello Esau,
No problem. Ask as many questions as you need in order to make an informed decision.
Regarding scaling loads, it is the responsibility of any driver, regardless of what company he/she drives for, to scale their loads and make sure that they are legal.
Essentially, our drivers pay the scales fee out-of-pocket and then are reimbursed in full, per their receipt.
August 30th, 2011 at 3:41 pm
Do you allow small pets?
August 31st, 2011 at 10:00 am
I appreciate the help, it makes me feel a whole lot better when I’m able to get informed people giving me answers to my questions.
Does it hurt my chances to get in with your company if I’ve been unemployed and receiving unemployment for 1 year. I had points on my license that fell off recently, but I wasn’t able to get anybody to look at me or even to consider me until those points fell off. It’s been three years now since I received those points and they just fell off last month.
I hope this doesn’t hinder my chances ’cause I’m seriously interested to work for your company. That’s all the questions I have, and if you can give me a positive feedback on the whole unemployment thing I’ll be making my way to your company.
September 2nd, 2011 at 8:57 am
Esau,
It’s a bit difficult to answer your questions in general terms, not knowing the specifics of your particular situation.
I would encourage you to complete an online driver application and let our HR & Recruiting department take a look at it and see what we can work out.
If you would like to speak directly to one of our recruiters (Brook at Ext. 2138, or Pam at Ext. 2137), please give us a call at 800-874-4270.
Thanks again, and we’ll be looking forward to receiving that application.
September 2nd, 2011 at 8:59 am
Hi Joyce,
Currently, we do not allow pets.
September 3rd, 2011 at 5:24 pm
do drivers have to pay for trailer washouts out of pocket, or does davis have accounts set up, etc., or in fact does davis only haul freight not usually requiring a washout?
September 6th, 2011 at 2:14 pm
Jason,
The appearance and cleanliness of our equipment is very important to us, both on the outside, as well as on the inside.
So, we do have an account set up with Blue Beacon that our drivers can use every 14 days for an external truck/trailer wash.
Interior trailer washouts are paid for with a Comcheck, at no expense to the driver.
September 9th, 2011 at 12:15 pm
How many days can you stay out? 7 or 12? If I stay out 12, will you try and route me to where I want to take my 34 hour restart?
September 14th, 2011 at 1:44 am
Is their any plans in the futire to allow passengers
September 14th, 2011 at 1:19 pm
Hey I had a small rear end collision over 3 years old, will that affect my hiring chances with DAVIS?
September 19th, 2011 at 8:56 am
A rear-end accident would actually have to be at least 5 years old before we could offer employment.
September 19th, 2011 at 8:57 am
At the present time, we do not have any plans to re-establish a rider program.
September 19th, 2011 at 9:02 am
Eric,
You can stay out either 7 or 12 days at a time… It’s your choice.
However, where you are routed for your scheduled hometime (48 hours) DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE AND YOUR PROXIMITY TO ONE OF OUR DROP YARDS/TERMINALS.
For more specific information, I would encourage you to contact our Recruiting department directly to discuss your options.
Thanks again, and we’ll be looking forward to hearing from you soon.

hello, maybe jumping the gun some but im curently in oklahome and going to be moving to florida atend of stepsons school year and looking at what is out there, this company is as close to a perfect fit as i have seen anywhere. my first question is ive been at my current job almost six years and i pull triple trailers from ok to ks i have also run for them into ne,ar,tx,and mo but we use daycabs, does this experiance count towards your tractor trailer experiance requirements? second question is that since i am on a scheduled departure time and pulling triples with no real way to scale and weigh them,i have two overweight tickets from 09 will this disqualify me to work at davis? thanks for your time
September 22nd, 2011 at 11:39 am
Chris,
We do require a minimum of 2 years of tractor/trailer experience within the past 7 years, so if you’ve been pulling tripples for 6 years, that should satisfy our T/T experience requirements, although some OTR experience is preferred, as our drivers are out for at least 7 days at a time.
As a general rule, the over-weights from 2009 should not hurt you, however, we do look at everything together for a big picture (i.e. MVR, PSP, etc.).
I would definitely recommend that you fill out an appication and let us see what we can work out.
If you would like to speak with a recruiter directly, feel free to give us a call at 800-874-4270, and dial ext. 2135 (Pam) or ext. 2138 (Brook), and they’ll be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.
Thanks again for the post, and we’ll be looking forward to hearing back from you soon.

How do we get to Orientation? Are trucks assigned in Stark? Drop yards secured for private vehicles? is 7 on 7 off offered in the Atlanta, area?
September 27th, 2011 at 2:10 pm
Eric,
We do provide a one-way bus ticket to Starke for orientation, which is where all trucks are initially assigned.
We also provide secure facilities for you to park your personal vehicle at our Starke, Lakeland, Auburn and Lavergne yards.
October 5th, 2011 at 2:10 pm
Is 7 on 7 offered in Atlanta, Ga.? Thank you
October 19th, 2011 at 7:32 pm
This sounds like a good company to drive for. It seems that every question has already been asked. The only thing I want to know is, the guy that I was driving for went out of business about three years ago, and I have been working in warehouse sense that time. How would I go about getting back to driving for Davis. I know that’s been along time not driving, but I am a good driver. The only ticket I ecer had was in 2000 for improper backing. That was when I first started driving. I would love to drive for this company.
October 27th, 2011 at 12:27 pm
Hello , I am interested in Davis and I believe I am qualified according to your listed requirements. My past employment history has been very stable and I have not moved Job to job. My question relates to the hiring process you utilize when determining employment. Having spoken to a few drivers with various companies I have heard some rumors or perhaps it is fact. My question is that when you approve the driver to attend orientation is the driver then employed with Davis only after a physical and DOT drug screen? Is the application verfied before attending orientation or is it first verified during orientation. I have heard several times that some companies will bring a driver into orientation soley based on the pre-hire application and when physically at the orientation the driver is found not to meet the posted requirements and thus sent home without a job. Does the hiring process at Davis allow for this to happen? For myself, I would not wish to leave my current employment and attend orientation while able to pass the physical and drug screen and have to be concerned that something was off with the application because it was not fully verified and then being sent home unemployed. This issue is of great matter to me mainly due to my responcibiltys to my children support. To offen I have found out for myself that the OTR trucking employers will look someone right in the face and tell a blatant lie or lie by omission. Please tell me your verification process and if my concern is valid. Please understand that I need to be 100% sure that when and if I am approved to attend that I have a job just pending the physical and drug screen because of responsibility to my family.
Thank you for your time and for the ability to inquire about employment.
November 15th, 2011 at 9:48 am
Hello Chris,
As long as we can verify a minimum of 2 years of T/T experience within the past 7 years (since Nov. 2004), then you shouldn’t have any problems meeting our experience requirements. I would encourage you to give us a call and speak with one of our recruiters for more information, or apply online and let us see what we can do.
Thank you for your interest, and we will be looking forward to hearing from you soon.
November 15th, 2011 at 12:53 pm
Hello Brian, and thank you for your interest in Davis Express.
We do not offer employment until we have verified enough T/T experience to meet our minimum hiring requirements (at least 2 yrs in the past 7 yrs). Though we like to verify all previous employment prior to orientation, and do strive to do so, it may not be possible in all situations. However, if you do come into orientation with the minimum amount of experience verified, and we subsequently are able to verify additional experience, it will be reflected in your mileage pay.
So, to answer your question in another way, we do as much up-front work on your application as possible, and then offer conditional employment based on the outcome of your DOT physical/Functional Capacity test and your pre-employment drug screen. So, unless you have something very negative from your previous work history that possibly was not verified prior to your orientation, you should not have any problems.
Based on your comments, it sounds as if you have a very stable work history which is a very positive thing.
I do encourage you to give us a call and speak with one of our recruiters. They will be able to answer any questions that you may have and to clear up any concerns about our verification/hiring process. We want our applicants to be as well-advised as possible so that they can make an informed decision concerning employment with Davis Express.
You can also fill out an online application from our main web site.
Thanks again, and we’ll be looking forward to hearing from you soon.
November 18th, 2011 at 3:53 pm
my question is Ive been in college since my last driving job
which ended August 09 til the present…. is there a place for me at Davis… I have heard nothing but good things about this company even while driving for my last company.
December 8th, 2011 at 10:05 pm
Very good site to visit with lots of info for drivers and new drivers looking to find a job here. I have been a driver for over seven yrs with the company. It is a good one to work for too. Like the job and the people I work for and with.
January 22nd, 2012 at 1:41 pm
If you pass your physical and drug test and not this Functional Capacity, does this mean your out the door and now youve quit one job to come to work for Davis and now your back on the street, or can a person take this test and then give his notice to the other employer. Hope Ive stated this correctly.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:47 am
Eric,
Our fleet trucks are currently governed at 65 MPH, which tends to serve us well, operating in the southeast.
We would be glad to review an application, if you are interested in employment.
Give us a call to speak with one of our recruiters, or you can apply online from our web site.
Thanks again, and have a great day.
February 3rd, 2012 at 7:49 am
Hello Rick,
The functional capacity test (FCT) is a “pass or fail” test and is conducted on the first day of orientation. Successful completion of this test is required in order to proceed through the remainder of the orientation process.
Currently, the FCT is not offered prior to orientation.
February 3rd, 2012 at 8:20 am
Mag,
As long as you meet all of the T/T experience and other hireing requirements, your time out of the truck while attending college would not be an issue.
January 9th, 2013 at 10:39 pm
will davis be willing to hire some one that has been off the road for the last 9 months? I took a job with a conveyor as an installer. and now the job doesn’t seem to be working out after 9 months of working with them.
January 10th, 2013 at 7:35 am
Good morning Matt, and thank you for your post.
For experienced drivers, Davis Express requires that you have a minimum of 2 years of verifiable tractor/trailer experience within the past 7 years, one year of which needs to be OTR.
However, if you qualify, we do offer a driver training program which only requires 1 year of recent, verifiable T/T experience.
So, to answer your original question, the fact that you have been out of the truck for 9 months is not an issue, as long as you meet the other hiring requirements.
If you would like to fill out an application online, we would be more than happy to take a look at it and see what we can do for you.
Davis Express is a great company to work for. They are really a top-notch operation and do take good care of all of their employees. It’s definitely worth checking out.
Also, if you would like to speak with a recruiter directly in order to find out more details about what we have to offer and the overall hiring process, feel free to give us a call at 800-874-4270, Option 2.
We have a great bunch of folks over in the recruiting department that would love to talk with you.
Thanks again, and have a great day.
We’ll be looking forward to hearing from you soon.
January 18th, 2013 at 8:48 pm
I have just graduated from TDI in Milton,FL. Do I understand correctly I would not be considered for hire because of my inexperience?
January 24th, 2013 at 8:50 am
Good morning Jonathan, and thank you for contacting Davis Express.
Congratulations on your accomplishments, and welcome to the exciting world of trucking.
You are correct that we would not be able to offer employment as a fleet driver at this time. However, we have recently initiated a driver training program that would allow you to pursue a career with Davis Express with only 1 year of verifiable tractor/trailer experience.
In the past, we required a minimum of 2 years over-the-road experience within the past 7 years. However, our New Driver training program reduces this requirement to only 12 months of experience, and it does not even have to be OTR, but can be local experience.
We’re sorry that we are not able to process a driver application for you at this time, but we do encourage you to keep us in mind and make contact again, once you meet the 1-year experience requirement for participation in our driver training program.
In the meantime, if we can answer any questions for you pertaining to the trucking industry or what Davis Express has to offer, please do not hesitate to contact one of our recruiters at any time.
Thanks again for your post, and we will be looking forward to speaking with you soon.
Have a great day.
January 27th, 2013 at 4:12 pm
Your company sounds like a great company to work for. I was terminated from a company June 2012 for a trailer fire, but I was hired at another company a few weeks later,so I’m currently employed. Would this hurt my chances of getting hired with Davis?
January 28th, 2013 at 7:28 am
Good morning Pam, and thank you for your interest in employment with Davis Express.
Although I am not able to say for sure how your situation will affect your employment options with Davis Express (without knowing all of the details surrounding the specific circumstances), I can tell you that we would be more than happy to take a look at an application and see if we are able to help.
If you have just a few minutes, we encourage you to fill out an online driver application, or give us a call to speak with one of our recruiters.
We will be looking forward to hearing back from you soon.
Thanks again, and have a wonderful day.
February 5th, 2013 at 5:50 pm
Hello. I’m looking at coming to work for Davis and I have an interview date set. I hope someone is able to answer these questions for me. I hate to keep bothering Brook with question’s:
(1) What does the functional capacity test consist of?
(2) Does the GA yard have Wi-Fi service for driver’s?
(3) If you’re in one of the yard’s, are you allowed to bobtail to the store?
(4) Who do you use for fuel stop’s?
(5) Is there 24 hr. break down support?
Thank you for your time and I’m looking forward to becoming a member of the Davis team.
John
February 6th, 2013 at 10:39 am
Hello John, and thank you for your post.
Questions are a good thing. No problem. We want you to know exactly what we have to offer so that you can make the most informed decision possible.
(1) Basically, the Functional Capacity test consists of 7 components which include: Handgrip test; Flexibility test; Treadmill test; LiftingCarrying Materials test; Step-climbing test; Lateral Squat / Walk test; and Shoulder Function test (includes lifting 10# weights). We can give you more specifics when you come in.
(2) At the present time, none of our terminals/drop yards have available WIFI service.
(3) Anytime that you are at one of our terminals (Starke/Dacula), we have company vehicles (noncommercial) available for drivers to use for running errands, etc. Otherwise, company policy does allow up to 30 minutes per day of off-duty driving. However, this is closely regulated and accompanied by very particular usage requirements.
(4) Generally, we use Loves and Wilco/Hess for in-route fuel stops.
(5) We do provide 24-hour support should you have mechanical problems on-the-road.
I hope that I have answered your questions sufficiently. However, please do not hesitate to contact our Recruiting department for clarification or more information.
Thanks again, and we will be looking forward to seeing you on Friday (2/15).
February 25th, 2013 at 6:49 pm
