sounds to good to be true do they hire out of the state of florida

  5. alexc Says:

    Hi Steven,
Yes. We do hire out of Florida…
We currently have 3 terminals/dropyards in the state of FL:
1 in Starke (our main terminal),
    1 in Lakeland (dropyard), and
    1 in Milton.

We hire as far south as Ft. Meyers and Ft. Pierce. However, if a driver lives within 125 miles of any of our drop locations, they will be required to park their rig at the nearest one to their house, during their hometime.

If they are further away than the 125-mile radius, they can take the truck/trailer home or park at an approved secure location.

I hope this answers your questions. If you have any additional questions or concerns, give us a call or shoot us an email.

    thanks again.

  6. Larry Beck Says:

  7. alexc Says:

Hello Larry, and thank you for contacting Davis Express.
We are definitely hiring from FL at this time, and offer SE regional OTR, great home time, excellent pay, super benefits and much more.
We would love to speak with you about the great employment opportunities that we have to offer experienced drivers.
I encourage you to contact our Recruiting department to discuss your options, or complete an online driver application and let us see what we can do for you.
Thanks again, and we’ll be looking forward to hearing back from you soon.

  8. chris Says:

I want to drive. I have a class A CDL w/ hazmat, double & triples. I graduated from Roadmaster driving school of Jacksonville in SEP 2010.
The state of Florida screwed up my driving history and I have been having trouble getting a driving job.
I had a speeding ticket back in 2003, while I was in the Army (10 yrs +), and while I had a Kentucky license at the time. But for some reason after I got out of service and moved back to Florida, the points (7pts)for those tickets were not applied to my driving record until AUG 2010. I have not been able to get them removed.

Is this something that you can work with?

I have driving exp from my time in the Army.

  9. Don Says:

I was wondering what the average miles per week are with running southeast. Also what speed are the trucks set at.I am currently a local driver that came off the road in Oct, but considering going back over the road if I am able to get home often and get the miles needed. thx

  10. David Tanner Says:

i live in nahunta ga would i be able to drive truck home and do yall plan on getting a ryder program

  11. alexc Says:

Hi chris, and thank you for contacting Davis Express.
Our minimum experience requirement is that you have at least 2 years of varifiable T/T driving experience within the past 7 years, preferably, over-the-road.
We would not be able to consider an application until this requirement has been met.
However, definitely keep us in mind down the road.

  12. alexc Says:

    Hello David,
Nahunta GA is approx 95 miles away from our Starke FL terminal, so you would actually be required to park at Starke on your scheduled time off.
We used to offer a spouse rider program, but we discontinued that back in 2010. To my knowledge, they do not have any plans to reopen that option at this time.

  13. alexc Says:

    Don,
Our trucks are currently governed at 65 mph, and our full-time drivers are averaging anywhere from 2000 to 2200 miles per week.
There are several different scheduling options available, but the one with the best hometime would be the 7-on/2-off.
If you would like more information about the available options, feel free to contact one of our recruiters for more details.
Thanks again, and have a great day.

  14. Mark Says:

Hi Alexc, Do you hire any drivers from Knoxville Tn?

  15. alexc Says:

    Hello Mark,
Knoxville is 160 miles away from our closest terminal (Lavergne TN). So, in order for us to be able to hire you from that location, you would have to park your rig in Lavergne on your scheduled time off and drive your personal vehicle home to Knoxville. This is certainly a workable scenario, but would require more driving on your part in order to get home.

  16. Brian Says:

I am looking hard at your company but 2000-2200 miles a week doesn’t seem like much. Would it be different since I would be out of LaVergne TN? How long is waiting period before I could get health insurance and what is the premium and deductible for a family. Thanks so much for your time!!!

  17. A.C. Says:

    Brian,
The mileage estimates that we publish are averages/approximations based on a comprehensive analysis of our entire fleet. This includes data from both part-time and full-time drivers and actual mileage may vary from driver to driver. We do have drivers that consistently exceed these averages, so the possibility for more miles does exist.
Concerning health insurance, you will be eligible for health benefits after your first 90 days of employment with Davis Express. As there are several different options that exist when it comes to health benefits, we encourage you to speak with a recruiter directly for the specifics and details.

  18. Steve Says:

I have seen Davis trucks on the dock at Publix super markets and like to know if they are Davis’s main customer or does Davis deliver and pick up from several customers?

I live in McCalla,Al., would I be able to drive truck home?

Also does Davis use a log book or Paperless?

  19. A.C. Says:

Davis Express serves a variety of customers throughout the southeast region.
If you live in McCalla, AL, then you should be able to take the truck & trailer home on your scheduled time off. If you are unable to park it at your place of residence, then you would have to park at a *secure* facility (no vacant parking lots or truck stops, etc.).
We have been using electronic logs since the 4th quarter of 2009 with great success.
If you have additional questions or concerns, or would like to speak with a recruiter about all of the great opportunities with Davis Express, give us a call today.

  20. Ian Petersen Says:

Your company sounds interesting. I would like to know what I would need to do be able to make 65k per year? How long would I need to stay out?

  21. Moderator Says:

Good morning Ian, and thank you for your interest in Davis Express.
Your question is not exactly an easy one to answer, in that there are so many factors that determine how much a driver earns annually, as I’m sure you are already aware. However, I will attempt to give you some averages and generalities that will hopefully give you a better idea of what to expect as a Davis Express fleet driver.

Basically, given our current load mix and running area, staying out for extended periods of time (more than 7 days) will not generally yield an increase in the amount that you earn, mainly due to Hours of Service restrictions. The most effective method of “making your time work for you the best” with Davis Express is for a driver to expire his/her 70 hours, do a 34-hour reset, and then head back out. Our normal home time policy is 48 hours every 7 days. But if a driver only takes 34 hours, this essentially gives them an extra day of driving every week.

For the most part, our top-performing drivers utilize this method, and we have seen some of them earn in the $60K-65K range. However, I would venture to estimate the general fleet average salary for a given year is somewhere around the $55K area; there again, it all depending on how aggressive you are with your available hours, your starting CPM, number of miles, seniority pay, stop pay, bonuses, etc.

If you would like to speak with a recruiter for more details and information about the opportunities that we have available, they would be more than happy to discuss your options with you. You are also welcome to complete an online application for us to review.

Thanks again for your post, and we will be looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Take care, and have a great day.

  22. Christopher Says:

I am 2 months from having 2 years otr experience . Interested in Davis. I live south of Fort Pierce Fl. Does Davis hire out of zip code area 33406.
W 2 years exp. Would I go out for 4 weeks w a trainer. Thx

  23. Moderator Says:

Good morning Christopher, and thank you for your interest in driving for Davis Express.
    To answer your questions:

    1. Yes, we can hire from the West Palm area. However, on your scheduled home time, you would be required to park your truck at our drop yard in Lakeland, which appears to be approximately 175 miles from your home.

    2. Within the past 7 years, if you only have 22 months of total driving experience, then you would be required to complete our 4-week training program. However, if you have at least 2 additional months of non-OTR T/T experience (for a total of 24 months of OTR/local combined), then you would not have to participate in the training.

So, basically, if you only have a total of 22 months of tractor/trailer experience, you could remain where you are for 2 more months in order to accrue enough T/T experience to keep you out of the training program, or just come on over and go through the training program for 4 weeks.

If you still need additional clarification on any of this, I encourage you to contact one of our driver recruiters. Or, if you would prefer, just provide us with your telephone number, and we can give you a call.

Either way, we will be looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Take care, and have a great day.
