Davis Express Announces 2011 Driver of the Year

It’s that time of year again–time to recognize the Davis Express winner of the 2011 Driver of the Year.

Much thought and consideration goes into selecting one driver to represent the “Best of the Best”. We look at criteria like accidents, incidents, average mileage, DOT inspections, hard braking, log violations, Missing DVIR’s, fuel compliance (fuel solutions), and average fuel mileage (compared to like trucks) in order to come to our final decision.

When you have so many top-notch drivers, it makes the job of selecting just one that much more difficult. However, select one we must. So, without further ado…

The Davis Express 2011 Driver of the Year award goes to none other than Mr. Cecil Gaskins.

Willard “Cecil” Gaskins age 59, is a resident of Starke, FL and has been employed with Davis Express for just over 6 1/2 years.

When he’s not out on the road, Cecil enjoys spending time relaxing at his mountain home in Franklin, NC.

He obtained his CDL when he worked for the Department of Corrections, back in the 70′s transporting prisoners, but it wasn’t until he retired from the Florida National Guard in 1999 that he became a truck driver.

After spending 19 years in the Guard and being around trucks and heavy equipment during that time, he took an interest in trucking. Though not necessarily his dream career, it was an obvious choice, as it was something that he already knew how to do, and he could make a decent living at it.

When asked if he had any advice for the other drivers out there, he replied, “Just do what you’re supposed to do, when you’re supposed to do it…”

Thank you Cecil for those words of wisdom and for being such an exemplary driver and member of the Davis Express team. Keep up the great work.

We hope that Cecil’s accomplishments will act as an encouragement to all of us to always do our best. It pays off in the long-run, in more ways than one.

In addition to receiving a certificate of his accomplishment and a special tractor designation as Driver of the Year, Cecil will also receive a $2,000 bonus check.
