What type of driving positions are currently available?:
We are currently hiring for both full and part-time over-the-road positions. Our Part-time schedule is 7 days on and 7 days off. Full-time drivers have the option of 48 hours off (every-other weekend), or out for 7 days and home for 2.

Do you take on Owner-Operators or offer any type of lease/purchase option?:
No. We only offer positions as a company fleet driver.

How much experience do you require in order to drive for your company?:
We currently require drivers to have a minimum of 24 months (2 years) of verifiable over-the-road tractor/trailer experience within the past 7 years.

What is your pay scale, and how often do you settle?:
Your starting pay will be based upon the amount of OTR and local tractor/trailer experience that can be verified within the past 7 years, and ranges from 39 cpm (for 2 years OTR experience), up to 42 cpm (for 5+ years of OTR/local experience). We settle every Friday, via direct deposit, into the bank of your choice.

How many miles can a driver expect to run each week with your company?:
Though mileage may vary from week to week, our drivers are currently averaging approximately 2300+ miles per week.

Do you require any special endorsements in order to drive for your company?:
We do not currently require any special endorsements such as HAZMAT, however, you must be able to obtain a Federal TWIC, if you do not possess one prior to employment with Davis Express.

Do I have to live in a certain area in order to drive for Davis Express?:
Yes. You must live within one of the following geographic areas in order to drive for Davis Express. If you have a question concerning whether or not you live within our hiring area, please contact our recruiting department. However, in general terms, we hire out of the following areas:
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Alabama
  • Tennessee

Can I drive for Davis Express if I have moving violations on my driving record (MVR)?:
If you have more than 2 moving violations of any kind within the past 3 years, or any serious violations within the past 5 years, you would not be eligible to drive for Davis Express (no exceptions).

Can I drive for you if I have a criminal background?:
We are not able to offer employment to applicants who have certain felonies or drug-related charges on their record. If you are in question as to whether or not your criminal history will be an issue, fax a copy of your criminal history report to us at (904) 964-5419 for review. Any non-violent crime must be closed and resolved for at least 7 years, and violent crimes for at least 10 years (misdemeanor/felony).

Are drivers required to do any nighttime driving while on-duty?:
Yes. Due to our current load mix and customer base, approximately 80% of our driving will be nighttime driving, primarily between the hours of 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM.

Does Davis Express use electronic or paper logs?:
Since September 30, 2009, Davis Express has been operating on a 100% paperless log system. We are utilizing the Omni track and Omni vision systems from Qualcomm. No prior electronic logging experience is required.

What areas do you run?:
Approximately 95% of our total fleet miles are ran within the states of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, the Carolinas and Tennessee, with less-frequent runs into Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas and Kentucky.

What type of freight do you haul?:
Our load mix is primarily comprised of grocery, produce and chicken loads and is approximately 95% refrigerated, and 5% dry freight.

Will I be required to handle freight?:
Freight handling by the driver is minimal, at 99.9% no-touch, and we do pay lumpers.

Do you compensate drivers for detention time and/or lay-overs?:
Yes. Detention time is paid at a rate of $10 per hour after the first 4 hours.  Layover pay is $50 for the first 24 hours and $75 for every 12 hours thereafter.

Do you offer any type of rider/passenger program?:
Yes. We do offer a Spouse-Rider program, which is available after 90 days* from your date of employment.

Do you allow pets in the truck?:
No. Davis Express strictly enforces a "No Pet" policy.

What type of equipment do you operate?:
Our fleet is currently comprised of 200+ trucks and 375+ trailers. Tractors include late-model Kenworth T-800's and T-660's, as well as a few Pete 387's. We pull 53' Thermoking and Carrier reefer units.

What is your home time policy?:
Davis Express guarantees that all drivers will get home either every-other weekend for at least 48 hours, or every 7 days for 2 days (depending on which home-time option you choos). Although, drivers living in specific geographic locations (such as along the I-75 corridor) may be able to occasionally stop at home during the week as well.*

Do you offer any type of benefits package?:
We currently offer the following benefits to our employees:

Do you force-dispatch your drivers, or do they have a choice of what loads they run?:
If a driver show's his/herself available, and has sufficient hours to operate, they must accept whatever load assignment that they receive from Operations.

How long is your orientation process?:
Orientation is scheduled weekly, from Tuesday through Thursday and is conducted at the Davis Express terminal in Starke, FL. Orientation pay is $300, and we also include motel accommodations, a daily lunch allowance and local transportation. Drivers are responsible for their own transportation to orientation.

Do drivers have assigned trucks?:
All full-time drivers will have an assigned tractor. However, part-time drivers are paired up with one truck and will "slip-seat" with the other driver every 7 days.

Can drivers take their truck/trailer home with them?:
Drivers living within a 125-mile radius of the Starke terminal or a designated drop yard (currently Lakeland FL, Lawrenceville GA and Lavergne TN), will be required to park their rigs at the nearest location on their 48 hours off. Those living outside of these areas will be allowed to take their trucks home with them, assuming they have a secure location to park the tractor and trailer.
